UPDATE: 09/12/2024
Yesterday I went for a run after a long period of not running at all. Over the summer I had a rough period physically and mentally followed by a very intensive period at school, so it is a big deal for me to have finally gotten back to running. During the run I was quickly reminded how great it feels. The new running shoes might have helped, but it felt like I was flying. I didn’t break any personal record or anything, it just felt like a satisfying run. When I started, I noticed that I had not been working out for a long time. My knees were rusty, I got a stitch and of course I noticed immediately that my stamina wasn’t anywhere near what it was before the summer. All this considered, it still made me happy to see that I wasn’t a complete wreck. I had energy and the first kilometer flew by. By 1.5 km I expected for it to become tougher, but that was not the case. The fact that I had not run for so long gave me a certain kind of energy or motivation that helped keep the pain at bay. I finished smoothly without being completely fatigued.
I ran 2.5 km in 14 minutes. Not a lot, I know, but it still went much better than I would have thought. This was just a quick update on where I stand with running and I hope I will have more to update on in the near future. The goal right now is to follow this trajectory and get back to running three times a week. The final goal is a marathon, but I definitely still have a long way to go.
